About the Song of the Moment

I'm not usually a fan of rap, or of songs containing significant amounts of profanity, but this Timbaland song ft. Fall Out Boy just made it onto my list of all-time favorites.

There's nothing spectacular about the rap itself, but Fall Out Boy's entrance is cutting as usual, and they continue to display perfectly the contradictory nature of the human heart.

Having dealt with mean, selfish people before and feeling, because of some misplaced loyalty, that I couldn't be nasty to them in return, I've always admired FOB's mastery of the art of hurtful words. And here, they've gone and impressed me again.

And Now, the Journal

Do you believe an entire story can be told in 55 words?

I already know the answer. Oh, ye of little faith!

Lo and behold! 55 Fiction has been around since '87!

Here's how it works:

You write an entire story in 55 words or less. That means you've got to give the impression that the entire story has been told, in detail, from start to finish.

The title can be up to 7 words, which don't count as part of the 55.

The story itself must be 55 words, maximum. It can be less, but why would anyone want to do that?

For the story to be legitimate, it must be fiction, it must contain one or more characters, there must be a conflict, and the conflict must somehow be resolved.

And fans of 55 Fiction have really come to enjoy a bang at the end. While it's not stipulated in the rules, writers of the genre have created an unspoken rule that good 55 Fiction misleads the reader until the very end and then cows them with a shockingly revealing last line.

And try to avoid clichés like a passionate love story that ends up being about a Twinkie and things like that.

Good luck. ;)
